It’s now been 38 years since Liverpool and Roma played the 1984 European Cup final, with the Italian side playing at home.
The match, which finished 1-1 after extra time, was still won by the Reds in a penalty shoot-out, with them lifting the trophy for the fourth time.
That may be an old story for many people, but not for Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Graziani, who was playing for the Serie A side at the time, and was one of the players who missed the penalty.
The 69-year-old gave today a long interview to Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sierra, and despite all the positive questions about his career, he was asked about that shot which took away Roma’s chances of beating Liverpool in the final, as it crashed against the crossbar.
From the five shots taken by Liverpool in that shoot-out, only Steve Nicol had a miss, with Phil Neal, Graeme Souness, Ian Rush and Alan Kennedy all scoring.
