Aston Villa have Lyon striker Moussa Dembele on their list of January transfer targets as Steven Gerrard plans an overhaul of his attack at Villa Park.
That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who say the French striker is set to leave the Ligue 1 club in the winter window.
He is determined to see out his contract, which expires next summer, but Aston Villa are ‘visibly ready’ to make an offer in January.
They are currently 14th in the table and have had a difficult start to the season and Gerrard wants to fix that in the next window.
He is ‘not at all satisfied’ with his side’s attacking play as they have scored just six goals in eight games, and they want to make moves in the next few weeks to change it up.
They ‘have ticked’ Dembele’s name on their list and are keen to sign him if they can, although they face a fight to convince him on the move.
It’s believed Aston Villa would have the money for a deal and enough to convince the player, but he seems determined to see out his contract until the end of the season before making the next step in his career.
Lyon, though, ‘would not be opposed’ to recouping a few million on the striker rather than letting him go free, opening the door for Villa to try and get a deal over the line in January.
