Earlier on Tuesday, France’s football association announced Lucas Digne has withdrawn from the national squad. The fullback had been called up after Theo Hernandez withdrew from Didier Deschamps’ squad, and it will be a big personal blow that he wasn’t able to take part.
Digne is suffering from an ankle injury, and he isn’t the only Aston Villa player facing fitness issues during the current international break.
Robin Olsen was called up by Sweden, as is routine, for the country’s upcoming matches. He’d been suffering from a minor knee issue with his club but was called up regardless and is trying to find fitness with the national squad.
Fotbollskanalen report Olsen didn’t train with the main Swedish group on Tuesday. The goalkeeper has been training alone, still suffering from the knee complaint.
There’s an expectation he’ll be able to return to the group on Wednesday, and Aston Villa will surely be keeping an eye on the situation and won’t want their player risked.
