Willem II striker Apostolos Vellios has recalled his ‘beautiful’ song at Everton, as the Dutch side’s fans come up with their own for him.
Vellios spent three years with the Blues, joining them as a youngster from Iraklis in his homeland before leaving for Lierse SK in 2014.
He would only make 24 appearances for Everton during his time there, spending more time with their youth set-up than the senior side.
That didn’t stop him from building an affinity with the Goodison Park faithful, though, who quickly honoured the striker with his own song despite a record of two goals and three assists in his 24 games for the first team.
He is now a ‘public favourite’ at Willem, so much so that he is loudly cheered whenever he is on the pitch and has his own song dedicated to him.
That’s brought back memories of his time at Everton, with Voetbal International asking about that first song devised by the Blues faithful.
“Yes, I heard it,” the song.
“I think it’s very nice, I really want to thank the fans for that. They give me confidence; I try to give something back on the pitch for that.
“Of course, that still touches me, even after the long career I’ve had. I think this is only the second time in my career that the fans really have a song for me.
“The other club? That was Everton, already ten years ago. I remember the lyrics exactly, it was in the typical dialect of the Scousers in Liverpool, but there are bad words in it.
“I’d better not repeat them. Both songs are beautiful, it’s just a nice appreciation.”
