We nearly went a day without an update on the Jonathan Calleri to Las Palmas situation. Nearly.
The West Ham forward, who finally scored his first goal for the club since his arrival on loan from Deportivo Maldonado in a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough, has been after an exit from the London Stadium throughout January, and he’s really close to getting one.
Speaking at a press conference to welcome former Barcelona wonderkid Alen Halilovic on loan from Hamburger SV, relayed by Tinta Amarilla, Cruz gave an update on the Calleri situation.
He said: “We’ve been really close, and we’re still working now. Being close means that Jonathan Calleri wants to come here. There’s only a few days left and it’s very difficult because the owner, that we have to respect in this, is West Ham.”
It seems that, despite the player’s wishes, West Ham are currently looking for someone to replace Calleri were he to leave.
Having recently signed Robert Snodgrass, which suggests a deal for Dimitri Payet leaving the club is imminent, finding a Calleri alternative could be what’s next on their list.
