Chelsea made a late approach for Mehdi Taremi, according to claims from Portugal.

Newspaper A Bola writes that the Blues got in touch with Porto to know about the ‘possibility of negotiating’ a move in the summer window.

It’s said the Dragons’ response was ‘negative’, given the importance he has in their team, and also because they wouldn’t have enough time to find a replacement for him at that stage of the market.

The story claims Chelsea became interested in the player both for what he did at the start of this season and his performances in 2021/22. Plus his physical style would really help him in the Premier League.

Taremi, of course, would like to make the move to English football as well. But as A Bola says, that wish will be ‘delayed’.

Just like Porto, the striker’s agents received an approach from Chelsea too, and had to explain that the Dragons wouldn’t let him go. So the Blues ended up looking at other targets.

The player is protected by a €60m release clause, and it seems the Stamford Bridge side had no intention of triggering that.
