Helder Costa’s permanent transfer to Wolves is being treated as pretty much certain in Portugal.
In one of their stories today, A Bola make a sum of all Benfica’s sales during the winter market. And Costa is included there, in a €15m transfer.
It doesn’t sound like an impossible story, but there are still a few facts that seem a bit strange. First because they’ve been reporting it for days, and nothing has been officially detailed yet.
It was even claimed Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira was flying to England to close the deal, but the official was still in Paris last night, where he closed the sale of Gonçalo Guedes to PSG.
Benfica seem pretty desperate to make money, so we wouldn’t doubt these claims are to pressure Wolves to sign the player before Premier League clubs do. Indeed, there’s every chance the Premier League interest has been manufactured for that purpose.
Paul Lambert’s side have until the end of the season to use the buying option, so there’s no rush at all. But as A Bola claims, Benfica can already count on the money to buy other players, let’s wait and see.
