AC Milan are interested in a deal for Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr but will need ‘real money’ to get a transfer over the line.

That’s according to Corriere della Sera, who say the Tottenham youngster is on the club’s list of options to reinforce their midfield.

They explain that Milan are keen to add a midfielder to their squad this summer, particularly after losing Franck Kessie on a free transfer to Barcelona.

Much of what they can do will depend on their impending deal for Charles de Ketelaere, who is set to be a pricey purchase in the region of €32m.

That will eat into Milan’s budget significantly and that could halt a potential deal for Tottenham’s Sarr.

There is interest in the youngster but for them to act upon it, it would be ‘essential to have real money in hand’.

That’s because Tottenham paid a big amount to sign the 19-year-old from FC Metz in August last year and so cannot ‘objectively consider’ the hypothesis of a loan with a right to buy at this moment in time.

In simpler terms, Spurs aren’t interested in sanctioning a loan deal this summer after spending so much on Sarr last year.

That makes things difficult for AC Milan, whose finances will be limited should De Ketelaere arrive as expected.
