On Tuesday, reports in England stated Newcastle United are planning to make an offer in excess of €60m for Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak.

Claims made in the UK have reached Spain, with Mundo Deportivo relaying it and then giving their own information on this case.

The striker is on the front page of the local edition of the newspaper, with ‘calm’ written in bold letters.

Inside the report, they state the threat of the Premier League hovers over La Real every transfer window. For this summer, Newcastle have the 22-year-old on their radar.

The Spanish club have not received a formal offer from Eddie Howe’s side for the attacker. The Magpies have continued stating they like the Sweden international, but this has not been converted into a proposal so far.

Real Sociedad have not shown an intention to sell the player, even though Mohamed-Ali Cho and Brais Mendez’s signings may suggest club president, Jokin Aperribay, would be open to selling Isak. In fact, the La Liga side have the funds to make another signing.

The Swede, for his part, ‘maintains his idea’ to continue with his club despite the interest shown by the Magpies. He is attracted to Sociedad’s sporting project, where he can play in the Europa League next term. That’s not possible at St James’ Park.

Isak is sceptical of the model Newcastle intend to implement. He has doubts ‘whether it is reliable to design a squad at the stroke of a chequebook’. In addition to this, those close to the frontman are not going to convince him to change clubs in the ongoing window.

Isak’s contract expires in 2026 and it includes a €90m release clause. Sources consulted by Mundo state even paying €60m for him is excessive and his real valuation has dropped after his performances last season.

Mundo add the scarcity of strikers in the market could impact Isak’s future at any given time. For now, despite Newcastle’s interest, the player ‘maintains his idea’ to stay.
