Manchester City’s new signing Julian Alvarez had, last evening, his farewell match for River Plate.

It’s fair to say things didn’t go well as expected, as with a 0-0 draw, the Millonario got knocked out from Copa Libertadores by Argentine rivals Velez Sarsfield, getting a quite disappointing elimination in front of their home fans.

There were two special reasons Alvarez would have liked to score last night, besides the obvious objective of getting through to the quarter-finals.

First because he wanted to become the top scorer in the Marcelo Gallardo era, and stayed one goal behind Rafael Borré.

Then he also missed the chance to score in the knock-out stage for the first time.

And on top of all this frustration, the striker still had to say goodbye to his teammates.

According to journalist Germán Balcare, he had this farewell ‘in tears’, with the same report claiming the striker is boarding to England on Friday at noon.

Manchester City already announced that on the 10th of July, they’ll present their new signings at the Etihad Stadium.

Alvarez is one of those players, and should therefore arrive a couple of days before that.
