As things stand, the appointment of Sam Allardyce at Crystal Palace has yet to bear its fruits, and Saturday’s 3-0 loss at the hands of struggling West Ham exemplified the rut the Eagles are currently in.

The arrival of Jeffrey Schlupp might bring an extra dimension going forward, but it seems it’s going to take a few more January signings before the former England manager gets the team he wants to ensure relegation is avoided.

One thing Allardyce will definitely want to stop is the loss of one of his key midfielders, as France Football report on Tuesday Marseille are interested in Yohan Cabaye.

The Frenchman, brought to Selhurst Park from Paris Saint-Germain by Alan Pardew, remains a vital component of Crystal Palace’s current first-team, but the appeal of reuniting with his former Lille manager Rudi Garcia could turn his head.

Marseille’s new project has already managed to cause havoc at West Ham via Dimitri Payet, and Allardyce will want to avoid a similar situation with Cabaye at Crystal Palace.

The Ligue 1 side are said to have already enquired with the player, who France Football say wouldn’t be against a return to France in a league he knows well.

With a contract running out in 2018, France Football seem to think Marseille have a chance, but unless the midfielder makes it clear he wants to leave, we doubt they’ll have much luck in this endeavour.
