Everton striker Cenk Tosun has ‘angered’ former club Besiktas by asking for €3m a year in wages to return to the club.
That’s according to Fanatik, who cover how the striker’s potential return is now in the mud because of his wage demands.
Tosun is out of contract at Goodison Park in the summer and set to leave Everton on a free transfer, with neither party keen on extending his stay on Merseyside.
He has been heavily linked with a return to former club Besiktas for months, but recent reports stated that the Turkish side were yet to make any offer and had even pulled back from a potential deal.
They explain that Besiktas had ‘opened the doors’ to their former player but were ‘shocked’ when he responded to them and demanded €3m a year in wages.
His argument was that because he would be arriving on a free, he should be paid more, something that ‘angered’ Çebi.
In fact, he’s reported as telling Tosun’s agent, “I have given a promise to him, but those numbers don’t exist anymore. If he accepts 1.5 million euros, let him come. If not, I wish him success in his football life.”
That follows him telling a recent press conference that “there is a serious difference between us in terms of wages”, and it seems that figure is €1.5m.
