Leeds United’s struggled under Marcelo Bielsa this season and it convinced them to part ways with the Argentine back in February.
The Whites were 16th in the table and two points above the relegation zone when Bielsa left Elland Road. He was replaced by Jesse Marsch the same month and the latter has helped the English club pick up 11 points from seven matches.
Leeds United are still in 16th spot, four points ahead of 18th placed Everton, who have a game in hand. Marsch was appointed as the new Whites manager on February 28th and days later, he added Franz Schiemer to his backroom staff.
Schiemer could now be in contention to become Austria’s assistant manager.
Austria are in the process of appointing a new manager after Franco Foda stepped down from his post. According to Die Presse, the ÖFB [Austrian FA] sporting director Peter Schöttel has held meetings, in person and over the phone, with 15 to 20 candidates.
Die Presse state: ‘The course for the Austrian national team will be set this afternoon at the Courtyard by Marriott Vienna Prater. The ÖFB holds its executive committee meeting there. The question to be clarified is: Who should head the national team as team boss in the future?’
It’ll be interesting to see whether Schiemer would be in contention for the assistant manager job with Austria, with Ralf Rangnick expected to get the manager role.
