Bruno Guimarães’ two goals in Newcastle United’s comeback against Leicester City at the weekend obviously made some noise in the Brazilian media, where people are happy with the midfielder’s first months in the Premier League.
That’s why the 24-year-old was invited last night to SporTV show Tá na Área. He had a lot to say about his adaptation to English football and the big chances he has of being an important player in the World Cup this year.
First quizzed about the move to Newcastle, with journalists pointing out it must have been a tough decision for him, Bruno Guimarães confirmed it was a big bet to join the Magpies at that stage of the season.
“It was certainly a very risky decision, when I signed with Newcastle we were second to last,” Bruno Guimarães told SporTV.
“I’ve always been a guy who liked projects, challenges. I believed, I accepted and yesterday I was crowned with the goals, the draw and the victory, which left us 12 points from the relegation zone with six games to go. So I believe it was the right decision.”
Guimarães was also asked about how different is the Premier League, and talked about the adaptation he’s been having so far, mentioning the support he’s been getting from club fans.
“It really is above the others, mainly in terms of intensity. In French football it’s physical as hell. The guys are strong as hell, but they don’t have the intensity they have in the Premier League. But here it really is different. I believe that everything here has a greater proportion than any other championship.
“I just arrived and the fans are already crazy about me, they’re in love. I’ve already said that the affection I have here is almost the same or even a little greater than I had at Athletico, where I was a great idol. So I’m very delighted, living it here with a lot of passion.”
Bruno Guimarães joined Newcastle on a €42m move from Lyon in January. He already has three goals in his 11 appearances for the Magpies so far.
