Earlier this week, we relayed news from Germany that Timo Hübers’ ‘strong performance’ for 1. FC Köln has drawn attention from Leeds United and a few other clubs.
The defender joined the Bundesliga side as a free agent last summer. After managing only three appearances in the first 15 league matches, he cemented his place in their starting lineup by impressing in the heart of their backline in recent months.
A latest report from Bild states the club’s new sporting director, Christian Keller, has to first focus on reducing the salary budget from €58m to €46m. In addition to this, he must ideally also raise a ‘double-digit million sum’ through player sales.
When discussing the ‘reason for change’, the report states the player is under the spotlight from clubs abroad ‘due to a strong season’ at Köln. Leeds are tagged as interested in the 25-year-old.
Hübers’ contract lasts until 2023 and a ‘maximum transfer fee’ of €6m could be earned from the sale. Bild have set the probability of him leaving Köln in the summer at 30 percent.
