It seems Hamburg have distanced themselves further from signing NEC attacker Anthony Limbombe following claims in Germany they are closing in on Stuttgart’s Filip Kostic. Limbombe was recently linked with the Bundesliga side, along with Leeds United.
Abendblatt Hamburger have today reported Hamburg have tabled a bid of €14m to sign Kostic, but Stuttgart are holding out for more because they know Premier League sides are showing an interest.
It’s been revealed Hamburg may have to go up to €17m to sign the Serbia international winger, which is something the German side would be prepared to do.
Despite the interest from Premier League sides, Hamburg know any English club would struggle to get a work permit for the 23-year-old, and therefore will be confident getting the deal done.
With Hamburg now preferring to target Kostic this should give Leeds United encouragement signing Limbombe this summer after previous attempts. The Championship side had a bid turned down last summer by NEC, but with the financial state of the Dutch side they could accept this time round.
Leeds United continued to monitor Limbombe’s situation last season, with recent claims they could go back in in for him.
