Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko has been speaking to the Danish media about his time at the club so far, and scoring against Glasgow rivals Rangers has been a particular highlight.
Sviatchenko scored his goal against Rangers in the 2016 Scottish Cup semi-final. Kenny Miller scored the first goal for Rangers before Sviatchenko equalised with a header. Barrie McKay then put Rangers ahead before Tom Rogic scored Celtic’s second equaliser.
Quoted by Danish newspaper BT, the player said: “It was a great experience to score against Rangers. It was my first goal for Celtic and in such a big showdown between the two Glasgow clubs who have a history with each other. The result of the match was not as enjoyable because we were unfortunately knocked out on penalties in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.”
In October, Sviatchenko believes he scored a goal which should have counted against Rangers in the Scottish League Cup semi-final. At 0-0, the Celtic defender saw what would have been the opener ruled out for a supposed foul on Rangers’ Clint Hill: “It was overruled, though there was no foul. But two goals in two games against Rangers has obviously been fun, if you disregard that it is only one that counts.”
Celtic won that match 1-0 thanks to a goal from Moussa Dembele.
