Manchester United are absolutely interested in Robert Lewandowski this summer and have been in contact with his agent Pini Zahavi about a move.
That’s according to journalist Tobias Altschäffl, who says Manchester United have made it clear they are ‘interested’ in bringing the Bayern Munich star to England.
Lewandowski remains one of the elite level strikers in Europe, having starred for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich over the last decade.
He currently has 336 goals in 364 games for the German giants, a tally he added to this week with a hattrick in the Champions League clash with RB Salzburg.
At 33-years-old there are no signs he is slowing down, but there are doubts about his future in Bavaria as his contract is set to expire next summer.
So far, Bayern have not opened talks to extend that deal, something which is said to have angered and confused the striker, who remains a first-team star under Julian Nagelsmann.
Indeed, there is a belief he could now look to move this summer, and that’s seen Manchester United, who have regularly been named as suitors down the years, brought back into the picture.
Most have dismissed the rumour given Cristiano Ronaldo is currently in situ at Old Trafford, but Altschäffl insists there is interest from them.
“I can say with certainty that they are interested,” he told the Bayern Insider podcast.
“They have been interested in Lewandowski before, but that doesn’t mean that he will sign for United in the next few weeks. It’s not like that.
“Pini Zahavi is exchanging with many clubs, and United has said that they would be interested if a situation arose that he could leave Munich.
“We know from the reporting of the last few days and weeks apparently that anything is possible at the moment. Lewi is unhappy.”
