Ronald Araújo made his first team debut for Barcelona in 2019 and has been a regular for them since last season, with his current deal expiring in 2023.
The centre-back’s performances and contract situation has resulted in interest from other clubs and one among them is Manchester United.
On February 9th, Sport reported the 22-year-old is a ‘desirable player’ for the Red Devils. Later that month, Mundo Deportivo explained the Premier League side are ‘crazy about signing him’.
Fast forward to March and Marca has a report that focuses on the efforts made by Barca to sign Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen. Towards the end of the same report, there’s an update on Araújo.
It’s claimed the Old Trafford club are ‘very interested’ in signing the Uruguay international in the summer.
United’s interest in Xavier Hernández’s man is also discussed by journalist Darío Montero on El Chiringuito TV. He claims the centre-back’s renewal at the Camp Nou is ‘frozen’ and that’s because Barcelona’s proposal didn’t even reach €4m per year with their offer.
Meanwhile, United are ready to ‘give’ Araújo an annual net salary of €10m, which is more than 2.5 times of what Barcelona have offered to extend his contract.
