It’s now been a while since we last saw an update on Newcastle United and West Ham United’s chase for Basel striker Arthur Cabral.
By the start of the month, it was even claimed the Hammers were about to make a bid and win the competition for his signing, but no updates ever arrived in that regard.
Now the word in Brazil has been that Corinthians are willing to sign the player, and due to the economic obstacles to make that transfer, they’re counting on partners to afford it.
Detailing that race, Goal features an update this week and point out that many European sides who’d been interested in the player, and they point out that both Newcastle and West Ham have not ‘reached the figures’ demanded by Basel.
It’s said the Swiss side are asking for €15m, but none of the Hammers, the Magpies, Barcelona or Zenit have been able to match that price so far.
With Corinthians also struggling to make the signing, the race for the striker remains open.
Since that’s not an exorbitant price for an attacking player who has been extremely prolific this season, it would be no surprise to see him getting a move still in January.
Perhaps Newcastle and West Ham simply know they can afford to wait a bit, and have him in the back of their mind in case other avenues don’t pan out?
