In the past 24 hours, we’ve had multiple updates on Arsenal’s chase for Arthur Melo from France, Italy and Brazil.
It started with RMC Sport stating the ‘negotiations are advanced’, before TMW explained that Mikel Arteta has asked for the Juventus player. Late on Wednesday, Globo Esporte reported the midfielder ‘has interest’ in making a switch to the north London club.
The Serie A side lost the Supercoppa Italiana to Inter Milan yesterday and the 25-year-old came off the bench in the second half.
Sky Italia now further state the Gunners insist on the former Barcelona man as Arsenal are ‘pressing’ for his signing.
However, the Turin club are currently not willing to let the Brazil international leave if it is on a loan deal, which is the ‘preferred solution’ for Arteta’s side. If Arthur or any other midfielder leaves the Old Lady, then Juve will focus on signing Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Sky’s claims are echoed by journalist Luca Marchetti, in his column for TuttoMercatoWeb. He claims despite that Arsenal ‘insist on Arthur’, Juventus ‘do not seem willing to open’ for a temporary transfer of their player.
