On Monday morning, we covered Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport sounding quite confident about AS Roma’s efforts to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal.
It was claimed the Giallorossi already have an agreement with the player’s camp, and now work to get to a deal with the Gunners for a loan with an obligatory buying clause.
Now Calcio Mercato comes up with an update on the talks, and besides backing up the claims made by Corriere, they bring the points which have been setting the clubs apart.
It’s said Roma first offered €1m for the loan and €10m for the purchase. Arsenal initially demanded €20m, and despite showing the Gunners’ willingness to drop it to €15m, there’s still a €5m difference to be sorted.
Meanwhile, the buying option should be triggered depending on how many appearances Maitland-Niles makes for Roma during the loan. Calcio Mercato says Arsenal are trying a low number, while Roma do the opposite.
It’s said the player has an agreement with the Italian side, and is now ‘waiting confidently’ for the Gunners to approve the transfer.
