Chelsea star Diego Costa is facing an uncertain future at the London club, at least according to the Spanish media.

In the last few months, the Spanish media have reported about Atletico Madrid’s interest in taking back Diego Costa back to Spain, but there have been conflicting reports.

It’d appear the Spanish media can’t make up their minds regarding Costa, and have another update on his future. We’re quite sure this isn’t the last one.

According to the Spanish daily AS, Diego Costa is another step closer to his return to Atletico Madrid, after Chelsea announced the signing of Michy Batshuayi.

AS say Chelsea would consider the sale of Costa, after they sign another striker. It is reported Chelsea now want to sign Gonzalo Higuain, and would be prepared to match his release clause of €94m if needed.

Atletico Madrid were also keen on the Argentine star, but had to turn their attention towards other targets as they can’t afford him.

AS reiterate Diego Simeone is keen on taking back Costa should a deal be feasible. Chelsea have refused to negotiate any deal for Costa until now, but AS believe things could change soon.

Costa also wants to return as he hasn’t settled in London, and has often found himself in controversies. The 27-year-old had started last season poorly, but picked up his form towards the second half of the season.

As things stand, it’s difficult to see Chelsea letting go Costa, as he can still do an important job for them. The player has another three years left on his contract at the London club, so there is no pressure on Chelsea to consider a sale, except if Conte doesn’t see him in his future plans.

On Friday Marca said Costa to Atletico was ‘practically ruled out’ because Conte and Chelsea are against a sale.
