Earlier on Thursday, it was claimed that Paul Mitchell, currently at AS Monaco, had offered himself to Newcastle United.

The club are still looking for a director of football, and so it made sense for the English transfer chief to want to return to his home country.

However, they aren’t the only ones, as Foot Mercato in France counter the information from Romain Molina by revealing that Mitchell has ‘cut short all negotiations’ with the Magpies and seemingly turned down Manchester United in the process as well.

Approached ‘with insistence’ by Newcastle, Mitchell was also ‘closely followed’ by the Red Devils, who had been after him ‘for a few weeks’.

The reason for that is that he has worked alongside Ralf Rangnick in the past for the Red Bull group, and the German would have liked to bring him in to ‘perfect the sector of talent detection and recruitment’.

The problem for both Manchester United and Newcastle United, though, is that Mitchell ‘does not want to embark on a new challenge’ right now, happy with his job in the principality.
