Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has denied Joao Félix wants to leave the club in an apparent hammer blow to Newcastle United’s chances of getting him.
Félix has been linked with a move away from Atletico in recent weeks, with reports in Spain stating he is ready to move on after two largely disappointing years at the club.
Several Premier League clubs have subsequently been linked, including Newcastle, who are seemingly set to spend big following their takeover earlier this year.
A report from Cadena Ser stated that the Magpies were one of the sides to have ‘asked’ about the 22-year-old’s future and even that their offer was the best one on the table.
That same report stated Newcastle were the offer he liked the least, although that was then followed by a report saying he was ‘tempted’ by what they had proposed.
It remains to be seen if that is the case, but what is clear, at least according to the reports, is that a transfer could be on the cards, and Newcastle are very much in the mix.
Atletico’s president, however, is having none of that.
“He’s a magnificent player; I don’t think he wants to leave,” he told El Larguero, relayed by Marca.
“He is non-transferable, and we are betting on him as we bet on Agüero in his day.”
