Three days ago, we covered claims from Uruguay which stated Leeds United have made contact over signing Agustín Alvarez from Penarol.
The 20-year-old has come through the club’s ranks, and managed 23 goals and five assists across all competitions this season.
Such form has inevitably been attracting attention, and it was explained Zenit Saint Petersburg have been making efforts to sign him, already offering $15m for the youngster.
Leeds United and Fiorentina were said to have also been in contact, and it was explained either club could come forward with an offer in the January window.
Mundo Deportivo have now dragged Barcelona into the picture, and they claim Real Madrid are also keen. Alvarez is described as being the natural Uruguayan heir to Luis Suarez, which would obviously make him more attractive for a Barcelona audience.
Mundo believe the player can be signed for around €12m, a figure which surely wouldn’t be out of Leeds United’s reach.
Indeed, they may find it easier to come up with that money than Barcelona will, giving Marcelo Bielsa’s side an unlikely advantage.
