Leeds United have been ‘added to the race’ for Noussair Mazraoui, report Il Mattino.
The 24-year-old has come through the system at Ajax and is now getting to the stage that he’s attracting serious interest from elsewhere.
Right-footed, his natural position is right-back, yet he can play elsewhere if required, such is the philosophy of the Dutch club. He’s struggled with niggling injuries over the past couple of seasons, although there doesn’t appear to be anything to worry about in the long term.
During the current campaign, Mazraoui has made 15 appearances for Ajax, scoring four goals and adding three assists. His contract with Ajax expires at the end of the season, and that situation has attracted interest from Napoli.
Il Mattino, the Serie A club’s local newspaper, now don’t sound too confident about Napoli’s chances. They say the route to the signing is becoming more complicated, and the possibility of an Ajax renewal is growing.
Should he decide against staying in the Netherlands, then there’s ‘important offers’ from the Premier League. Il Mattino then report Leeds United and Arsenal have been ‘added to the race’ for the player’s signature.
It’s not made clear what those ‘important offers’ are and whether it’s simply just a reflection of the opportunity to join a club or if sides like Leeds and Arsenal have made actual financial approaches.
Either way, it’s not great news for Napoli.
