Thursday was an interesting day for the Julian Draxler saga.
The player, who made it clear he wanted to leave Vfl Wolfsburg, was reportedly a long-term target of Arsène Wenger at Arsenal, yet it’s Liverpool who were brought into the fold by the English and the German press.
The Times reported Jürgen Klopp’s apparent interest in the former Schalke star, with Liverpool likely to ‘test the water’ regarding a January transfer, while German publication Kicker, in their print magazine, also stated the player ‘applied to potential new employers’ including Liverpool.
Whether this was all a ploy to speed things up elsewhere will forever remain a mystery, as L’Equipe on Thursday are reporting that the favourites to sign the German forward have now won the race, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly agreeing a €36m fee with the Bundesliga side.
The French side were reported to have agreed terms with the player earlier this week, with the two clubs still in negotiations, but that now seems to have been resolved.
Kicker on Thursday claimed that it would take €45m to convince Wolfsburg to sell, yet it would appear that there is a difference between what they wanted and what they were prepared to accept.
The player is now expected to move to Paris, with the Ligue 1 champions looking to reinforce their squad after a poor start to the season by their standards, currently sitting third in the table at the halfway point of the season.
