Somewhat forgotten at Liverpool, Xherdan Shaqiri decided it was time to move on from Anfield and find himself a club where he could feature regularly.
Lazio were touted, but it was Lyon, now managed by Peter Bosz, who decided to try their luck on the Switzerland international, spending just over £5m on the 29-year-old.
Picking up an assist in his first league game, Shaqiri has started the last two, including Wednesday night’s against Troyes, where he found the back of the net for the first time.
He might have had a ‘disappointing first half’, as per Le Progrès, but he came back on the field all guns blazing, smashing a ‘sharp shot in the top corner’ in the 48th minute.
Peter Bosz also commented on the former Liverpool player’s performance after the game: “He didn’t do the preseason with us. The players do not fully understand his qualities and vice versa, but we can all tell he has a great left foot.
“Not only in the way he scored, but also in the balls he was able to give his partners or his crosses, which are extraordinary. He’s a really good player”.
While his time at Liverpool will mostly be remembered as a disappointment, it appears Shaqiri is intent on not repeating the same mistake at Lyon.
