Rangers losing out to Malmo in the Champions League qualifiers was something which clearly angered manager Steven Gerrard.
Two goals down in the first leg in Sweden, Steven Davis gave Gerrard’s side some hope, making it 2-1 in injury time. That gave some confidence for Rangers ahead of the second leg, and they went ahead thanks to Alfredo Morelos.
That should have been enough for Rangers, especially after Malmo had a player sent off, however, the Glasgow team crumbled and conceded twice to see their European dream fall to pieces.
After the match, Steven Gerrard said his side had panicked, and that resulted in them losing control of the game.
On the other side of the coin, Malmo manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was thrilled to beat the Scottish Premiership club, clearly feeling the odds were stacked against his side when they got Rangers in the draw.
“We have learned to play under pressure and to take responsibility, acquiring a routine for matches of this level. We enter the field to surprise them. We have already met teams with bigger budgets than ours, such as Ludogorets and Rangers, and we came out well. If we are here it is because we deserved it.”
Rangers will just be sad it’s not them taking on the Turin giants tonight.
