Sander Berge was expected to leave Sheffield United in the summer transfer window after the Blades were relegated from the Premier League.
The midfielder was linked to a few clubs in England and across Europe, but he hasn’t managed to get a move away from Bramall Lane.
With less than 24 hours left for the window to close, the Norway international’s chances of leaving Sheffield United seem to have been ruled out after he tested positive for Covid-19.
That’s according to Nettavisen, who have also managed to gather comments from Norway manager Ståle Solbakken.
Solbakken was addressing reporters on Monday ahead of the upcoming international fixtures and said Berge being forced to isolate will diminish his chances of making a move elsewhere.
“Now he is, as we might have feared, in a situation lying in bed… Or at least on the couch, and is locked up for ten days. He can probably only go to Russia now,” Solbakken said.
The national team manager was further quizzed if he thinks a move away from Sheffield United is ruled out at least until January.
Responding to that, he explained: “Yes, I think it will be difficult even for [Berge’s agent Morten] Wivestad.”
