Despite all the claims circulating that Pape Matar Sarr’s transfer to Tottenham was done, that’s not quite the case.
The update comes from French journalist Alexis Bernard, who works for Le10 Sport, who explains ‘it’s still not signed’.
While he does make it clear that there is a ‘total agreement between the clubs’ of €30m, bonuses included, as well as a loan back to Metz for the midfielder for the 2021-22 campaign, the problem lies with the personal terms.
That’s because ‘discussions are still ongoing between Tottenham and the player’, suggesting that what Spurs initially put on the table wasn’t good enough.

We’ll have to wait and see if club and footballer can come to an agreement, but unless something surprising happens, this should get done before the end of the transfer window, especially with the clubs already happy with the transfer fee.
Pape Matar Sarr was one of the revelations of Ligue 1 last season, becoming one of Metz’s key players against the odds, which caught the attention of various clubs, which we now know clearly included Tottenham.
