Everton defender Yerry Mina has urged James Rodriguez to stay at the club this summer and ‘make history’ with him.
Rodriguez has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park in this transfer window after just a year in England.
He arrived on a free transfer from Real Madrid last summer and was often the star of the show under Carlo Ancelotti when he was fully fit.
That, though, was something which was not a regular thing, with the Colombian suffering from several niggling injuries that limited his playing time.
That, coupled with Ancelotti’s departure, has led to talk of a move away, with it believed that new Everton boss Rafa Benitez is not keen on keeping the midfielder.
He’s subsequently been linked with a move to Italy, but Mina is hoping that he sticks around.
Appearing on Rodriguez’s Twitch channel to discuss all things football, Futbol Red report he told his teammate, “I want you to stay here (Everton); we are going to make history here and in the national team. We are going all out.”
Despite a litany of questions about the subject, he elected to avoid giving a definitive answer, instead pointing to how you never know what’s going to happen, as Lionel Messi’s move to PSG has proven.
“We are at a club that is not the best, but you can compete with anyone…” he said.
“Football changes a lot; look at Messi; he is now at PSG.
“Physically, I’m fine; I haven’t felt like this for months. I want to have a good season whether it’s here or wherever, football takes many turns.”
In the meantime, it appears Mina is simply focused on the season ahead with Everton after a disappointing summer at the Copa America.
He’s also been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer as the Blues look to raise funds for new signings.
He, though, is only focused on the new campaign and is yet to have an in-depth talk with Benitez about their plans.
“I’m motivated because new challenges are coming, new goals, working and hoping that this season will be full of success and victory and that we can qualify for the Champions League or Europa League,” he added.
“I have spoken very little with the coach, I hope to have a good relationship and meet the club’s objectives.”
