Wolves big transfer news of the day is signing Francisco Trincao on loan from Barcelona.
The Premier League club have a buying option, and Sport believe his exit is likely to end up being permanent. The Catalan newspaper say there’s ‘the aroma of farewell’ and don’t expect to see the player in a Barca shirt again.
Wolves were linked all the way back in March, when it was explained Jorge Mendes could help a deal sail through. June saw claims of a possible swap deal involving Adama Traore, but Barcelona’s finances mean adding more high wages to their already bloated bill would be prohibitive.
The 21-year-old has had a mixed first year at Barcelona, with 28 La Liga appearances but only 683 minutes in the competition. He faced criticism in Spain when he in February he bought a Lamborghini Huracan and posed for pictures in front of it. Some in the Spanish media felt it was a crass thing to do given the struggles many were going through due to the pandemic.
It felt a little over the top, especially when the Catalan media have been insisting Lionel Messi’s humungous contract is renewed.
Barcelona would likely have wanted to keep control over the player’s future, but their financial situation probably saw them encouraged to accept the option to buy for Wolves. Whilst it hasn’t yet been reported in Spain, it would be no surprise if the coming days see claims there’s a buyback clause should Wolves use their option.
