It’s no secret by now that Leeds United are very close to signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona, as the Spanish press has today been full of stories about this deal.

Now it’s time for the Italian media to have a slant on the chase as well, because even though Milan had also been interested in the player, it now looks like they’ve lost the race.

Calcio Mercato reports that earlier today, Leeds ‘made the decisive thrust’ to land the 24-year-old and the deal ‘will be closed in the next few hours’.

The website says Leeds ‘put on the plate’ the amount of €15m, which had already been requested by Barcelona, and Firpo should have a medical with the Premier League side at the beginning of next week.

As often done by the Italian press, Leeds United are referred to as ‘the club of Radrizzani,’ with him being given the credit for snatching the deal, while the reports from Spain were highlighting the jobs of Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa in landing the Barcelona player.

Calcio Mercato says Milan will now ‘have to give up’ on signing the Dominican .
