Newcastle United right-back Emil Krafth has ruled out the possibility of leaving the Tyneside club in the summer transfer window.
After managing only four league appearances in the first half of last season, he managed to collect more minutes in the second half of the campaign and finished the season with 16 league appearances.
During the winter market, there were rumours of interest from Turkey in the 26-year-old, but a deal to join either Istanbul Basaksehir or Galatasaray never appeared to be close.
Although there has been no concrete claims of interest from any club in the defender, the Sweden international has stressed he has no plans to leave Newcastle, where he has two years left on his contract.
“I assume that I will stay. I have two years left on my contract. As it looks now, I will stay, 100 percent. Then you know that things can happen overnight when it comes to football. But I thrive very well in the club and the city. I really want to stay,” he told Fotbollskanalen.
The fullback arrived in the Premier League from French club Amiens in 2019 and although it wasn’t easy for him to adapt to the demands and style of England football, Krafth is of the belief his game has developed since joining Steve Bruce’s side.
“I feel like things have gone better and better. We’ve changed the game system and it may not have suited me like a glove,” Krafth explained.
“I am a right-back in a back four, but at the beginning when I came to Newcastle I played as a wingback, with three at the back. I’m not the winger who challenges my opponent that way but I drive more on overlaps and want to get to the posts.
“It did not fit me like a glove, even though I played a lot when I arrived. But in the end, I played as one of three midfielders in a five-man defence and it becomes more of a full-back role, it feels a bit more like my position.
“I may not go as offensive as I did in a back four, but there are still opportunities to step up.”
