On June 10th, we covered claims made by Sport1 that Leicester City and Newcastle United are ‘now interested’ in Schalke’s Ozan Kabak.
The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Liverpool and the Reds had an option to make his stay permanent.
However, the Merseyside club decided against buying the 21-year-old and instead ended up investing in signing Ibrahima Konaté.
The Turkey international has returned to the German club, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last term.
According to Bild, Schalke were hoping the centre-back’s performances for Liverpool could convince them to retain him, but ‘Jürgen Klopp cancelled it’.
That’s left disappointment, the same as their hopes of the player doing well for his country at Euro 2020.
Despite all this, there are clubs looking at the player as Bild name Brendan Rodgers’ side and the Magpies as ‘interested parties’ in Kabak.
However, neither Leicester nor Newcastle have made an offer because the German side haven’t received proposals.
It would appear Kabak’s time at Liverpool wasn’t impressive enough to create a rush for his signing, not least from the Reds manager.
