Paulo Fonseca was close to being appointed as new Tottenham Hotspur coach, before Gennaro Gattuso overtook the Portuguese in the running for the vacant job at the London club.
Having left Napoli at the end of last season, Fiorentina appointed the Italian as their new coach on May 25th.
On Thursday, the two parties mutually rescinded the agreement and Gattuso was linked with the Spurs job later that day.
Multiple reports, at least coming out of Italy, are now claiming the former Milan manager is expected to be the new manager of the Premier League side.
Tottenham sacked José Mourinho in April and since then various candidates have been linked with the Tottenham job. Given the Gattuso rumours, TuttoMercatoWeb decided to get in touch with Daniel Levy and, surprisingly, have received a response from the Spurs chairman.
“We never comment on rumours. We’ve been linked with 30 different coaches in the last period. Until we make an announcement it’s just speculation. Gattuso? Of course, him too,” Levy said.
Despite the comments made by Levy, TMW indicate the situation with Gattuso and Tottenham is ‘very close to being resolved’.
