Barcelona have ‘reached an agreement’ with Lyon forward Memphis Depay for him to join them on a free transfer in the summer.
That’s according to MARCA, who say the striker has reduced his wage demands considerably to secure a move to the Nou Camp.
They explain that Depay is an ‘express request’ from manager Ronald Koeman, who worked with the striker successfully during his time in charge of the Netherlands.
He tried to sign him in the last two transfer windows but couldn’t get a deal done due to the delicate financial situation at the club.
The problem is now the continuity of Koeman, whose future is unknown at this moment in time.
If he remains, Depay will join the club.
If he doesn’t, that would cause a ‘radical turn’ and lead to new negotiations.
The relationship between the two is the key part of the deal, with Koeman determined to sign the striker and him wanting to work under his former boss once again.
Thus, it all hinges on the Dutchman staying beyond this summer, and if he does, the deal for Depay is now neatly wrapped up and ready to go.
