With Manchester United already comfortably in a Champions League spot in the Premier League, those behind the scenes can safely plan the upcoming transfer window knowing full well they have that extra pull.
That could be key when talking to big names, such as Raphaël Varane, as the club look to bolster their side enough to try and push for a better title challenge next season.
Should the Frenchman be unavailable, as he appears to be the club’s number one choice for the role, then perhaps someone like Kalidou Koulibaly could be an adequate alternative.
Gazzetta dello Sport seem to believe so, at least, pushing their third article this week involving the Napoli star and Manchester United’s interest in the player.
It’s explained Koulibaly ‘would like to experience something different’, with Barcelona, both Manchester sides and Liverpool all competing for his signature.
Previous reports suggested a price of €50-60m, and Gazzetta stick to that, although they say ‘the feeling is that even at €50m, Aurelio De Laurentiis will let him go’.
However, it’s also pointed out that things might change should Napoli qualify for a Champions League spot, as they currently sit fifth, two points behind Atalanta, Milan and Juventus (all on 69 points) with four games to go.
One to keep an eye on, although we’re sure Gazzetta will do that for us and keep pushing it down our throats.
