RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer is Jose Mourinho’s ‘express wish’ this summer, but a deal may be difficult for Tottenham.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say Spurs have identified the Austrian as one of their ‘main targets’ for the summer.

They explain that, after two poor seasons, Tottenham need to start investing in the squad to help them move away from Mauricio Pochettino’s ‘strategies’ and get more in line with Mourinho’s.

Sabitzer is the man they want as they believe he can address the ‘handicap’ they have in their midfield with the way he ‘mixes play, work and finishing’.

Mourinho also believes he lacks strength in his midfield, and Sabitzer can fix this, so has made signing the midfielder his ‘express wish’.

Tottenham are happy to oblige him, but the cost of any deal is likely to be high.

The interest is there from Spurs, though, although it’s a little confusing why Mundo, a Spanish newspaper, would have any coverage of a very German centric story.

There’s every chance they’re simply picking up on reports from Germany this week that stated Sabitzer has made it clear he’d like to explore a move to England before signing a new deal and just put two and two together.

Either way, it’s certainly something to keep an eye on, with Sabitzer having been linked to Tottenham for the last 18 months and this summer looking like the one in which something may finally happen.
