Manchester City and Girona are both owned by the City Football Group and the close ties between the two sides have allowed the Citizens to send some of their youngsters on loan to the Spanish club.

Last summer, the City Football Group agreed a deal with Argentine side Talleres for Nahuel Bustos’ transfer.

It was reported the 22-year-old joined the Citizens and they allowed him to join Girona on a season-long loan deal in October 2020.

The forward has failed to find the back of the net and has managed only one assist in 19 appearances in LaLiga 2 this season.

Apart from Bustos, Girona also have Arijanet Muric, Yan Couto and Pablo Moreno who are on loan from City, and their performances in the first half of the season have left the Spanish side disappointed.

Prior to the player joining the City Football Group, Sevilla sporting director Monchi was keen on signing the forward.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Bustos’ temporary move to Girona was initially received with ‘great enthusiasm’ since he was also on the agenda of clubs in the top division.

Monchi followed the Argentine from his time in South America and he ‘kept track’ of the player this season.

Bustos has been left out of Girona’s starting lineup in recent months and has failed to impress during his loan spell with the Segunda División side. The attacker has not lived up to expectations, which is why he has lost his place in the XI.

These are the ‘reasons’ the City owned player ‘no longer fits into Monchi’s agenda’.
