Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard has been accused of not having the right mentality to succeed at Real Madrid.
The Norwegian midfielder is currently on loan at the Emirates from the Spanish giants, having joined in the January transfer window after pushing for the move himself.
He’s yet to get really going for Mikel Arteta’s side, with him yet to show the kind of form he enjoyed in a loan spell with Real Sociedad last season.
That’s very much a continuation of how things were for him in Madrid, where the midfielder found himself out favour under Zinedine Zidane.
They say that Zidane ‘decided’ to reduce the numbers in his squad, hence Odegaard going to Arsenal and Luka Jovic being shipped out to Eintracht Frankfurt.
The newspaper believes Zidane ‘did not manage’ Odegaard’s case well but that the player also had his own part to play’.
It’s claimed his ‘mental strength’ may not be ‘adequate’ to play for Real Madrid, who are described as the ‘most demanding club in the world’.
Thus he was shipped out to Arsenal, but even there, he’s struggling and isn’t ‘shining’ quite how many predicted he would.
In other words, Marca suggest Zidane wasn’t the major issue for Odegaard at Madrid after all, and the player deserves more criticism than he has received so far.
