David Alaba has rejected a renewal offer from Bayern Munich and is set to leave the treble winners as a free agent once his contract expires at the end of this season.
The 28-year-old’s qualities and contract situation has seen him attract interest from top European clubs and this includes Liverpool.
On January 22nd, SportBild journalist Christian Falk reported the defender has not turned down an offer from the Reds.
Wednesday’s edition of AS has a report on the Austria international and the clubs interested in taking him on a free transfer.
Liverpool are in the list and the newspaper states the English champions are chasing the player ‘at the request of Klopp’.
The versatile defender initially asked for a net salary of €13m to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena. The figures demanded by the Austrian would make him the highest paid player at Liverpool, above Mohamed Salah.
According to the report, the Bayern star’s financial demand is the ‘main problem’ for Liverpool in bringing him to Anfield.
The Premier League winners are studying different formulas to acquire Alaba’s services as nothing has been decided so far. AS further adds a decision on his future is likely to be made between April and May.
