Real Madrid are current La Liga champions and sit second in the table, but that obviously isn’t considered good enough for Los Blancos. They lost a cup match this week against lower division opposition, and drama is building.

Zinedine Zidane is increasingly being criticised for his failure to refresh the Real Madrid squad. It’s thought he doesn’t have enough patience with new signings or young players, and instead continues to use the circle of options he trusts the most.

That scenario is what saw Sergio Reguilon move to Tottenham in the summer window. Jose Mourinho’s side got the player on a permanent transfer, however, Real Madrid have an option to take him back.

A buyback clause worth €45m is valid for both the summer 2021 and 2022 windows, and Sport report Madrid are considering using this at the first chance.

That would see Tottenham make a €10m profit, however given how well Reguilon has done it would certainly be an irritating situation for Mourinho and Spurs.

Sport make clear that a lot would depend on the player himself, and he may not fancy a return to the Spanish side if he’s going to be marginalised by Zidane again.
