Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has not rejected an offer from Liverpool, but he is still likely to end up at Real Madrid.

That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says talks of him rejecting Liverpool’s offer outright are wide of the mark.

Alaba is a free agent in the summer and, after negotiations over a contract extension at Bayern broke down, is expected to leave the German club come the end of the season.

Under the Bosman ruling, he is free to negotiate with clubs this month, and nearly every big side in Europe has been linked with making a move.

Liverpool are among them, with Jürgen Klopp’s side desperate to add another centre back to their squad after their problems in that position this year.

It was believed that they had made a move for Alaba, who would be the kind of high profile partner that many believe the club need for Virgil van Dijk.

Reports this week, however, stated that they were set to miss out on his signature after he rejected offers from them and Chelsea. Falk, though, says otherwise.

“It’s a classic case of not true,” he told BILD.

“We had reported about their (Liverpool’s) interest and that they have also thrown a salary offer into the ring which has not yet been rejected.

“There is still no trend towards England and we hear in the club his preference is to go to Madrid, who may already be ahead of the competition and have the deal fixed or signed.

“There is a great consensus that in the end he will move there.”
