Arsenal director Edu Gaspar spoke today to the Spanish media regarding the situation of Lucas Torreira.
With the Gunners player having an uncertain future at Atletico Madrid, the official has now confirmed there’s been several approaches for his transfer in the January transfer window.
“The situation is very simple. Arsenal are concerned about Torreira, his happiness, that he plays and that he’s well. We want to know about him, how he feels and, later, of course, know what Atletico think,” Edu Gaspar told AS.
“For us, Lucas and his happiness is the most important thing. If everyone is happy, we will continue like this, if Lucas is not well, we will seek a change because there are many teams that are calling me to ask about the player’s situation.”
Lucas Torreira left Arsenal in the summer with the plan of getting more minutes. However, he’s only made 13 appearances for Atletico Madrid so far, and is barely coming off the bench lately.
AS writes that Diego Simeone’s tactics don’t make him an essential piece in the squad. The only reason why the Colchoneros would fight to keep him is to continue having many options just in case the club get into some kind of Coronavirus crisis.
The outlet adds that Valencia have already approved his arrival, and Torreira himself is keen on the move, as they’re his favourite option. So that’s now up to Arsenal and Atletico Madrid to sort the situation out.
Other clubs who reportedly want him include the likes of Lazio, Fiorentina and Torino.
