Pushed to one side by Mikel Arteta, although not as much as Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi is in need of more regular time on the pitch.

Lazio, who were already interested in the summer, are considering giving him that, but Calciomercato explain ‘it’s not easy to negotiate at the moment’.

One of the reasons for that is the Serie A side already having a fully registered squad and cannot add anyone over the age of 22 without removing one of the players already on the list.

That means Lazio would have ‘evaluate several factors’, including making a sale of one of their players ‘with the same formula’.

Free to talk to other clubs since his contract is up at the end of the season, it might be ‘better to attempt the assault’ for the Arsenal centre-back for next summer instead.

That would mean offering him a contract from July 1st onwards, and foregoing the idea of a transfer in January.

As Calciomercato say, Lazio ‘remain vigilant’ about the player’s situation and are mulling over their options.
