Liverpool will announce the signing of Celta Vigo youngster Stefan Bajcetic later today after finalising a deal for the 16-year-old centre back, according to claims from the Spanish media.

Earlier today we brought you a report from Spain that stated the Reds had leapt into action to beat Manchester United to the capture of the youngster, with an emissary of the club travelling to Spain to finalise the deal.

That same report stated that Liverpool had made a last-minute decision, pushed by new rules on signing players post-Brexit, to secure the youngster ahead of United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had been linked with a move in recent weeks, with reports explaining that both they and Celta Vigo were keen to get a deal done and his agent was working on ensuring the La Liga side received compensation.

A deal seemed almost finalised, but Liverpool have now stepped in, with La Voz de Galicia backing up the reports.

They say Bajcetic is on the verge of bringing a seven-year stay at Celta to an end to ‘embark on a new stage’ at Liverpool.

It’s stated that Liverpool were actually the first English team to show an interest in him, although Manchester United had been ‘very close’ to signing him, as has been reported.

He’s said to be on his way to Anfield, though, and the agreement between the two clubs ‘will be made official’ in the next few hours.
