Robert Lewandowski continues to be a superstar for Bayern Munich this season, following his brilliant last campaign.

He’s scored 17 goals and added four assists in just 12 Bundesliga matches, and is maintaining his position as arguably the best striker around. That’s seen multiple awards and nominations come his way, even though he’s had to miss out on a chance to win the Ballon d’Or due to the Covid-19 crisis.

France Football have the player on their front page this week, pictured with all the trophies he’s gathered over the past week. The magazine has managed to get an interview with the Bayern player, and as part of the chat, Lewandowski was asked about Manchester United.

The Poland international was linked with a move to Old Trafford earlier in his career, when he was still with Borussia Dortmund, and he’s now confirmed talks were held over a switch to Manchester United, and very much suggested he would have been up for the move.

France Football quote the player as saying: “After my second year in Dortmund, I had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson. He wanted me to come to Manchester. There I was very interested. I can even say I was ready. But Dortmund didn’t want to let me go. It didn’t bother me more than that because things were going well with Borussia.”

Manchester United therefore missed out on the signing, and Borussia Dortmund lost Lewandowski to Bayern Munich for free in 2014.
